Chronic Migraine

Chronic Migraine is a debilitating condition where one experiences 15 or more headache days per month, with at least 8 days being migraine features that last 4 hours or more, for at least 3 months. Migraine features can include photophobia, inactivity, and/or nausea. Chronic Migraine can negatively impact one’s quality of life and ability to carry out activities of daily living. BOTOX® is a Health Canada approved preventative treatment for headaches and migraine attacks. BOTOX® may help reduce the severity and/or frequency of headaches and migraine attacks. Proper oversight and care from a qualified, expert physician are critical for optimal care and positive relief.   • BOTOX® works by interrupting the release of neurochemicals by sensory nerves which are responsible for pain transmission. This helps to prevent the activation of pain networks in the brain thereby reducing headaches and migraine attacks.

Results:

It takes 2 weeks to reach peak effect and results typically last 12 weeks. It is recommended to repeat treatments every 12 weeks.

 

Downtime:

No social downtime (pinpoint redness and swelling to injection sites for a few hours).

 

Cost:

BOTOX® for Chronic Migraine is generally covered by insurance, but may be subject to copay dependent on your coverage. No additional injection fee.
